This site is dedicated to the medical contributions and excellent work of Dr. Finola Fogarty.

WELCOME.

This page has been designated as a place for those Canadians who are seeking to share their experiences in the health care system - primarily in regards to resources, advocacy, and complaints.

As a person who has been in the health care system and am acquainted with others in the system, I have noted time and time again that there in no one definitive place to get information and to share frustrations about what it is like to get no co-operation from bureaucrats, governments, and professionals in high places.

This is the place to complain and to vent your fustration with others. Everyday, I seem to hear some new story about someone's run-in with a doctor whose answers are drugs, medical personnel who feel they are not accountable to patients, institutions whose main focus seems to be damage control, public programs that no longer treat people as human beings nor as separate entities with sometimes unique problems, desperate searches for information that no higher echelons seem to want to share, and simply, where to go with complaints in the medical arena. It does truly feel like you are alone at times with no one to turn to and to just hear you out. There are times when giving up seems to be a viable solution.

DO NOT GIVE UP !

EVER.

In my experiences with the Canadian Health Care System, not to mention the medical field in general, I have noted that one has to push and shove to get heard. No, it is not always the case as there are excellent medical practitioners and government officials out there who do care. There are those and organizations who do care deeply about you. The pushing and shoving comes when you attempt to find these very people. It is my hope that this page will allow resources and questions to be addressed through sharing.

Have you ever spoke the phrase, "I wonder if that is legal?" Or something to that effect? I think it is everyone's question at some point in time. This page is not hear to point blame at anyone, nor be a crusade against any specific group. While gripes and complaints can be shared, I leave the legal fights to qualified lawyers and other professionals. BUT. But what I can do is help that process along by letting you share valued information towards a closer solution to your problems. No, it is no miracle cure for bureaucracy, as bureaucrats will always be there as a thorn in everyone's side. The answer has to come from a decision to share valued information with others, so much like a jigsaw puzzle, the whole picture can eventually become clearer.

Without getting too militant, we must be united. Unification has to occur before there can be a solution to any groups' problems. Becoming apathetic is not the answer. Falling prey to what others have decided to be your fate is not acceptable. Yet all of us do this at some point in our lives. You may be even doing it now. The first step is to unite and share with others, unite in spirit as well as action. In any bureaucratic system, there is a hatred for any group that has decided they are "not going to take it any more".

The time, more than at any time in history, where the possibility of uniting as a common front is possible. We have the accessibility to communications with one another like no other era ever has. There does not have to be this dogmatic perception that those in the health care system are helpless and therefore no threat to bad decisions in parliamentary law, provincial cut-backs, and municipal by-laws. Those who seem to place themselves higher than others tend to forget the families of those in the health care system, not to mention friends.

This is your place to share and a place where you can be heard. Share your story on the message board and tell the world. It is about time that those in the higher offices of Canada be shown what is it like to be you. If this requires us to also show the world, then so be it. Your voice is going to be heard internationally. Whether you are a retired or injured officer from a system that has failed you, a mental health patient's family whose child is being pumped with drugs rather than alternate treatment, a person who has been treated badly by public transportation, or that doctor who has gone bad, your time to speak up is now.

When posting to the message board, just keep in mind a few items:

Try to keep it brief, keeping to the neccessary issue.
Keep only to the facts and do not speculate.
If you must speculate, state that this is only your personal opinion.
    No bad language.
Refer to professionals only by their initials. ie) Dr. B.
You can refer to corporate entities, etc., if you use only stated fact and reporting.

For further information on actually uniting for a common gripe against a specific professional body, refer further on in the web site.

I welcome you.

Dejay
